Southern Utah Area Parks and Recreation Spots
Snow Canyon State Park (10 miles NW of St George) is a small state park offering a extraordinary scenic drive, short hiking, horseback riding opportunities among red sandstone cliffs, twisted rock layers, and volcanic flows.
Also there are three superlative national parks within reasonable driving distance from St. George and Cedar City. Zion National Park which is only 38 miles east, Bryce Canyon National Park is 125 miles northeast, and the northern rim of the Grand Canyon is 160 miles southeast.
Pine Valley Mountains (35 miles N) in the Dixie National Forest offers over 60 miles of hiking and horseback trails and several campgrounds in a pretty alpine setting above the summer desert heat.
